COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR – UK HOMECARE DIVISION
Strong package to attract the best

Ideal Midlands-based

The Company

Fast growing and dynamic €600m FMCG European group with broad range of non-food and food-based products focused on consumers’ everyday household usage needs through a range of high-quality, well-known brands and retailer own-label products.

The business has achieved substantial sales growth success over the past 5 years through both M&A and organic growth with a strong strategic vision for further growth over the next 5 years.

The UK market operates with a number of business divisions with combined sales of over €100m and are now looking to appoint an outstanding and dynamic Commercial Director for their non-food bakeware and cookware division.

The Job

This rare broad-based Commercial Director role will report to the Group Board and take responsibility for the sales and brand marketing, product development and procurement activities with a key focus of leading and inspiring the talented teams to drive targeted, profitable sales growth with both existing customers and new business.

You will shape marketing strategies to develop new products both from external sourcing and intergroup brands as well as retailer brands, which are then procured from global supply partners. Additionally, you will develop brand marketing strategies and activations, all focused on consumer cooking needs that help drive rates of sale at point of purchase.

In this hands-on role, you will also develop and implement the future sales strategy through the sales team and work closely with major retail multiple account key stakeholders. The focus here is to drive profitable sales growth through both existing and new retail business including grocery, high street retail discounters, departmental store groups and the leading e-commerce players.

About You

Having developed a successful FMCG commercial career within non-food brands which MUST include experience in the bakeware or cookware categories, you have 7-10 years’ sales experience in a team leadership position and are looking for your next career challenge as a Commercial Director.

You have a detailed knowledge of the major UK retail marketplace including experience of managing teams in the major retail grocery and high street discounter accounts and potentially the major housewares store group accounts. Your skills include shaping effective trading strategies that have delivered profitable sales growth – we would love to hear your proudest success stories!

Although not essential for this appointment, it would be beneficial to have gained both sales and direct brand marketing and/or Far East sourcing experience through your career journey. Clearly you will have strong senior-level customer management experience together with modern category management, JBP negotiation and team leadership skills, which coupled with your broad commercial acumen, managing complexity and strategic planning have all contributed to your proudest achievements!

Ideally blue-chip trained, you also have experience and enjoy working in smaller/medium sized UK-based FMCG companies where a strong hands-on style is the order of the day. You are highly personable, fun to be around, highly influential with all human beings and above all, are hardworking. You naturally work to high standards with the determination and ambition to achieve both your business and future personal career goals.

So having carefully considered the above details, you are currently working within a non-food branded business at HOS, SD, SMD or CD level, OR you may be in a senior retailer procurement function and looking to take your career over into a broad-based Commercial Director position – please forward your CV quoting reference MS/2590, together with salary details to mark@smithcarey.co.uk OR call Mark Smith for an initial confidential discussion on 07747 847214.
